Heritage in Hilltops is set to benefit from $40,000 in grants under the NSW Government Heritage Grants Program, Member for Cootamundra announced today.

Ms Cooke said the funds would help the local community to know, value and care for heritage.

“I’m thrilled to announce Hilltops Council will receive $40,000 to undertake the Hilltops Aboriginal Heritage Study,” Ms Cooke said.

“This project will identify and record places of Aboriginal heritage significance and develop recommendations for their management and conservation.

“It will be a game-changer, assisting Council to develop strategies to manage Aboriginal sites and places and developing a protocol for ongoing Aboriginal community liaison,” she added.

The 2018/2019 grants saw $740,000 awarded to 20 projects statewide across three streams: Aboriginal Heritage, Community Heritage Projects and Local Government Heritage Planning Study.

This funding round marks the 40th anniversary of the state funded heritage grants program.

“Looking after our heritage is everyone’s responsibility and local communities play an important role in maintaining heritage at a local level.
