Shovels are in the ground as work continues on the $10 million Billimari Pipeline which will deliver a new reliable and secure water source for Cowra and surrounding regions.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said this project will allow Cowra to draw water from the borefields at Billimari to give businesses, residents and visitors greater access to water.

“Wyangala Dam and the Lachlan River are Cowra’s only water sources which is why we are connecting the town to a new supply to increase their capacity to support locals during dry spells,” Ms Cooke said.

“Two new bores, a pump station and 200KL storage reservoir are already complete and workers are now focusing on building a 26-kilometer pipeline to safeguard the communities water supply.

“By creating a link between the Billimari borefields and Cowra water treatment plant we’re giving Cowra another option to lean on when the next drought inevitably strikes.”

Minister for Lands and Water Kevin Anderson said despite heavy rainfall and recent flooding rain across the country, it is important to plan ahead and put infrastructure in place to help communities deal with drier periods.

“The NSW Government is taking the lead on installing new water infrastructure like the Billimari pipeline to build a more resilient regional NSW.”

The pipeline is being funded 100 per cent by the NSW Government’s Regional Capital Stimulus Program.

Construction is expected to finish in December 2023.
