Children and families from around Cowra will benefit from a brand new mobile preschool venue, Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke announced today.

Ms Cooke said she is proud the NSW Government is ensuring all children, no matter whether they are from Cootamundra or Coogee, have access to top quality early childhood education.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce an initial $60,000 grant from the NSW Government to establish a new mobile preschool venue at Holmwood Public School,” Ms Cooke said.

“This means more childcare options for hardworking families in the Cootamundra electorate, and more educational opportunities for our electorate’s youngest learners.”

Cowra Early Childhood Mobile Service Coordinator Penny Smith said the new venue would be a huge boost for the community.

“There’s currently no state-funded preschool centre in Cowra, so for us to be able to provide this 8kms away in Holmwood is fantastic, I imagine we’ll have a lot of families who travel to use it,” coordinator Penny Smith said.

“We were approached by the school principal last year to explore this. She is really excited about the benefits of including children and the opportunity to transition them from early learning into the primary school system,” she added.

The grant can go towards the purchase or lease of a new vehicle, staffing arrangements, operational costs and additional equipment.

Cowra Mobile Preschool also recently scored a Quality Learning Environments Grant of $13,362 to enhance the outdoor, natural learning environments at their venues in Gooloogong and Mandurama.

Around the electorate, six preschools were successful in securing grants, representing a $99,255 investment in Cootamundra.
