CELEBRATING NSW EDUCATION WEEK 2024 IN THE COOTAMUNDRA ELECTORATE

Friday, 9 August 2024

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has commended the school communities of the Cootamundra electorate for celebrating Education Week from Monday, August 5, to Friday, August 9.

Ms Cooke said Education Week is a wonderful time for us to celebrate the achievements of all our students, from academic excellence, sports victories, and artistic accomplishments, and recognise the important role our school staff and support staff play in fostering quality learning and creating a place where our next generation of leaders are proud to belong.

“There are wonderful 81 schools across the Cootamundra electorate, including 66 public schools, and I’m excited about this year’s Public Education Week theme "proud to belong”

Ms Cooke said this is a time for us to shine a spotlight on the achievements of our students, teachers, support staff and Parents and Citizens Committees across the Cootamundra electorate.

“While we may associate school with textbooks, computers, pens, and markers, our schools provide a diverse range of activities, from the arts to music and sport, in a place where our young people can explore their passions and talents, fostering a sense of pride in our community,” Ms Cooke said.

"Just last week, I enjoyed visiting Temora Public School, where I joined their student leaders in planting an Australian native Woolly Bush, as part of their national tree day celebrations,"

“Our young people have a keen interest in conservation, and it was inspiring to see teamwork in action as we planted two trees that will further improve the front gardens of Temora Public School over the years to come – it was great fun,” Ms Cooke said.

Education week is also a chance to thank the thousands of teachers who inspire our students every day, harness the talent within our schools, and showcase what is unique and special about each of our communities, fostering a sense of belonging and pride.

Public Education Week, previously known as Education Week, is a state-wide annual event held by the NSW Department of Education from 5-9 August 2024 (Term 3, Week 3) to celebrate NSW public education. It celebrates the achievements of local schools, their students, and teachers and the value of public education to communities across NSW.
