COOKE HITS THE ROAD FOR NATIONAL MEALS ON WHEELS DAY

Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, joined Cootamundra Meals on Wheels volunteers on the road this week to deliver meals to local residents as part of National Meals on Wheels Day celebrations.

Joined by local coordinator Kerry Kostrubic, who continues to be instrumental to the local branch's operations, Ms Cooke began the shift at Adina Care, where the chefs had spent the morning thoughtfully preparing meals for the day’s clients.

The visit highlighted the many people behind the service and came at a milestone year for Cootamundra Meals on Wheels, which celebrated 60 years of supporting residents in 2026.

“There are so many people involved in getting nutritious meals from the kitchen to the table of a grateful local who needs an occasional helping hand to remain independent at home,” Ms Cooke said.

“Days like today are about recognising not only the vital role Meals on Wheels plays for older residents right across the Cootamundra electorate, but also the wonderful individuals and businesses that continue to donate their time to make it all happen.”

Having enjoyed her time chatting to residents while delivering their meals, Ms Cooke said one of the most valuable aspects of the service was the companionship offered through regular visits.

"For many clients, the friendly face at the door and a quick chat can mean just as much as the meal itself,” Ms Cooke said.

"Meals on Wheels is built on connection, and in addition to delivering meals, has become a means of combatting social isolation and helping people remain engaged with their community.”

"While it was wonderful to spend time with the Cootamundra branch, the same spirit of generosity and community service can be found right across the electorate."
