Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke MP has officially opened newly upgraded facilities at the Ganmain Sports Ground, marking a major milestone for the Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions Football Netball Club and the broader community.
The upgrades follow a $1,736,018 investment through the NSW Government’s Level the Playing Field Program, aimed at breaking down barriers for women and girls in community sport by delivering modern, inclusive facilities.
They include dedicated change rooms for women and girls, a parents’ room, toilets, and showers.
“This is a game-changer for Ganmain and surrounding communities,” Ms Cooke said.
“More and more women across our Cootamundra electorate are playing a wide range of sport, and it’s vital they have the facilities they need to get involved."
The new facilities will benefit the Ganmain, Grong Grong and Matong senior and junior netball and football clubs, the Ganmain Tennis Club, local schools, and wider community groups.
“These upgrades are about more than bricks and mortar, they’re about creating safe, modern and inclusive spaces that encourage more people, especially women and girls, to get involved in sport," Ms Cooke Said.
“It’s these sorts of projects that strengthen the ability of our rural communities to host competitions and events, keeping our towns active, connected and proud.”
The facilities will be used year-round by local football and netball teams, tennis players, community groups and schools, making the Ganmain Sports Ground a true hub for sport and community life in the Coolamon Shire.
Ms Cooke congratulated the Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions and the local community for their advocacy and vision in driving the project forward.
