HENRY LAWSON FESTIVAL DRAWS THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO THE REGION

12 June 2024

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has praised the work of all those involved in this year’s Henry Lawson Festival in Grenfell, congratulating the community on yet another successful event.

Ms Cooke joined with thousands of festival-goers, who gathered in the town to celebrate one of the region’s signature attractions.

Ms Cooke said the festival is renowned for introducing Henry Lawson’s work to generations of fans, showcasing Grenfell’s heritage, and entertaining regulars and newcomers alike with vibrant street parties, market stalls, buskers, and performers.

“The Henry Lawson Festival is a celebration of culture, heritage, and the enduring spirit of our community,” Ms Cooke said.

“I was so honoured to help officially open the festival for 2024, which delivered a weekend filled with activities that showcased our rich cultural tapestry; from the parade, to the poetry readings and storytelling sessions, to the art and vintage car exhibitions, along with musical performances, there is always something for everyone to enjoy,” she said.

Ms Cooke said the welcome blue sky and sunshine added to the warm country atmosphere of the festival, which is held to honour the birth of one of Australia’s most famous bush poets.

“I commend the organisers, volunteers, and participants whose hard work and dedication make this event possible each year,” Ms Cooke said.

“Their commitment ensures that the Henry Lawson Festival remains a highlight on our local events calendar, drawing visitors from near and far to our beautiful town of Grenfell, and in doing so, helping to provide a boost to the local economy.

“The festival is one of my favourite local events; it’s a guaranteed unique experience for locals and visitors alike, and I’m already counting down the days until next year’s event,” she said.
