HONOURING THE FALLEN ON NATIONAL POLICE REMEMBRANCE DAY

On Tuesday, September 29, communities across Australia paused for reflection on the service and sacrifice of police officers for National Police Remembrance Day.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP and Hilltops Council Mayor Brian Ingram joined The Hume Police District Superintendent Linda Bradbury, Acting Inspector Mark Lake and other local officers at Young Police Station for a special service to honour those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and recognise the dedication of officers who continue to serve our communities every day.
Ms Cooke said the day has particular significance in regional communities, where police officers often act not only as law enforcement personnel but as trusted members of the towns and villages they live and work in.
“National Police Remembrance Day is an opportunity to honour the brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others and to remember the families, friends and colleagues they have left behind,” Ms Cooke said.
“Our local police are the familiar faces people turn to when in need. They are connected to the towns they serve by building relationships and working hard to keep our communities safe.”
The role of police in rural areas extends far beyond responding to crime and emergencies.
“Officers in regional NSW play an important part in strengthening community resilience,” Ms Cooke said.
“National Police Remembrance Day gives us a chance to express our recognition of the dedication, professionalism and courage shown by officers every day, often while facing challenging circumstances.
“We owe a sincere debt of gratitude to those who serve and protect our communities.”
Acting Inspector Mark Lake joined Ms Cooke in encouraging locals to take time to thank their local officers for their service and remember those who have fallen in the line of duty.
“Today, we remember our fallen colleagues and acknowledge the lasting impact their loss has had on families, friends and police communities,” he said.
“National Police Remembrance Day is a time for us to pause and honour the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our communities. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.”
