Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke is ‘stepping’ up this August for the Can Do The Distance challenge, supporting Can Assist as the organisation celebrates 70 years of helping country cancer patients.

Ms Cooke will be walking 10,000 steps every day throughout the month of August to raise awareness and show her support for the dedicated volunteers who run local Can Assist branches across the electorate.

“For 70 years, Can Assist has been there for families in rural and regional communities, offering practical, on-the-ground support when it’s needed most,” Ms Cooke said.

“Our communities are stronger because of the work they do, and I couldn’t be prouder to support them.”

In the Cootamundra electorate, Can Assist branches operate in:

  • Cootamundra

  • Ardlethan

  • Grenfell

  • Gundagai

  • Harden-Murrumburrah

  • Junee

  • Narrandera

  • Temora

  • Ungarie

  • West Wyalong

  • Young-Boorowa

“These branches only operate because of the dedicated local volunteers who give their time to raise funds, support local families, and make sure no one has to face cancer alone just because they live in the bush,” Ms Cooke said.

“For seven decades, this organisation has been a lifeline for our communities,” Ms Cooke said.

“It’s an incredible legacy of care, generosity and grassroots support that continues to make a real difference for rural families facing cancer.”

The Can Do The Distance challenge encourages people to walk, swim, cycle, read or learn something new.
