NEW-LOOK SPORT AND RECREATION FACILITIES UNVEILED IN BLAND SHIRE

Friday, 19 July 2024

Sport and recreation in the Bland Shire Council has received a boost following the opening of projects designed to attract locals and visitors alike, with the Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke unveiling two exciting facilities in the region.

Ms Cooke was on hand to officially open the new West Wyalong Tennis Clubhouse. She was joined by members of Bland Shire Council including Mayor Cr Brian Monaghan, along with members of the tennis club, including a number of life members.

“The opening of this new clubhouse is a wonderful example of how investments in local infrastructure can bring people together and enhance community spirit,” Ms Cooke said.

“This facility will serve as a hub for our growing sporting community for years to come, so today’s opening truly marks a significant milestone for the broader community,” she said.

Ms Cooke said the clubhouse project was made possible thanks to a $252,000 investment by the previous NSW Coalition Government.

“Congratulations to the members of the West Wyalong Tennis Club, including President Stuart Luelf and Andrew Bartlett, on working so hard to bring this project to life; I have no doubt the clubhouse will boost local engagement in tennis, and provide a venue for regional competitions and community events,” Ms Cooke said.

Ms Cooke also attended the opening of the Cooinda Waters Canoe Circuit in Wyalong, which she said, also marks an important moment for the community.

“Today’s opening is not just about a new community asset, it’s also about the importance of putting infrastructure in place to build a stronger community now and into the future,” Ms Cooke said.

“The previous NSW Coalition Government understood the importance of this kind of government investment, and has contributed $543,000 in recent years, towards the Cooinda Park precinct.

“It not only provides a wonderful facility for the local community to utilise, but will also serve as an attraction for visitors to the region, which of course has the added benefit of boosting the local economy more broadly,” she said.
