SPORTS CLUBS TO GET BACK IN THE GAME

Sports clubs across the Cootamundra electorate have received funding for new equipment, programs and facilities to get more people involved in sport following the awarding of grants under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program.
Nine local sports clubs were among 836 sporting organisations across NSW to share in $3.9 million funding through the Program.
A total of $50,000 was awarded across the electorate with the following projects receiving a share:
West Wyalong Amateur Swimming Club were awarded $15,000 to install a Public Announcement System
Young Junior Rugby League Football Club were awarded $5,000 to expand their Tag Town competition
Temora Schoolboys Junior Rugby League Club were awarded $1,605 for junior referee communication equipment
Grenfell Soccer Club Inc were awarded $5,000 for portable grandstand seating
Cowra Amateur Swimming club were awarded $5,000 for a Wylas swim timing system
Gundagai Horse Trials were awarded $5,000 for Showjumping Wings
West Wyalong Services and Citizens Club were awarded $3,723 for their Bowling Over Barriers project
Young Dressage Association Inc were awarded $4,672 for a para-equestrian mounting ramp
Grenfell & District Junior Rugby League were awarded $5,000 for portable grandstand seating
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the grants would help local clubs to get more people involved in sports.
“Sport is a way of life in our country communities, with each local town and village having a strong presence in the pool, on the court, and on the field,” Ms Cooke said.
“These grants provide essential funds to our local clubs for programs, equipment and facilities that will enable more people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport.”
Minister for Tourism and Sport Stuart Ayres said bringing communities together through sport provided many social, heath and economic benefits.
“Getting together with teammates on a weekend or mid-week to play sport is so important for our physical and mental health,” Mr Ayres said.
“Projects funded by the Local Sport Grant Program will play a vital role in bringing communities together and give people the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of sport.
“With community sporting competitions returning to normal following two pandemic-affected seasons, these grants will support both people returning to sport and those participating for the first time.”
Grants up to $20,000 were available under the program with up to $50,000 available in each electorate.
