SUPPORT FOR MUTTAMA WAR MEMORIAL

Wednesday, 10 November 2021
Work to conserve the Muttama Hall will soon commence thanks to a funding injection from the NSW Government’s $125,000 Community War Memorial Fund.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke welcomed the investment in the significant local landmark.
“Our region has a proud military history and I’m thrilled to see locals actively working to conserve sites that recognise service and sacrifice,” Ms Cooke said.
“The Muttama Hall and its grounds, hold a special significance to our community so I am pleased to see this restoration work going ahead.”
President of the Muttama Hall Management Committee Hilary Connors was thrilled that repair works can continue at the site through the assistance of the grant.
“The Muttama Hall was entirely built and funded by WWI Veterans and the community almost 100 years ago so it is important we keep that legacy alive,” Ms Connors said.
“This grant along with previous funding for upgrades to the site, has allowed the recommencement of commemorative days at the hall grounds.”
The Muttama Hall is home to the Muttama Great War Roll of Honour, the Muttama First and Second World Wars Roll of Honour and the Muttama Recreation Ground First and Second World Wars Memorial Gateway which are all listed on the NSW War Memorial Register.
Projects from Bulahdelah to Gundagai received funding of up to $10,000 to conserve, repair and protect the State’s existing war memorials.
Minister for Veterans Natalie Ward said recognising those who served and respecting military history is crucial.
“By funding these initiatives, the NSW Government is acknowledging the important service and sacrifice of our veterans in their communities,” Mrs Ward said.
“We are committed to backing projects which shine a light on our veterans, enrich communities and heighten our understanding of our military efforts both past and present.”
Applications for the second round of the Community War Memorial Fund will open on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2021. A further $125,000 of funding will be available.
