The Temora NSW SES Unit has celebrated an extraordinary 50 years of service, marking the milestone with an anniversary event and community open day.
The occasion recognised five decades of dedication from SES members who have supported Temora through storms, floods and other emergencies, while highlighting the vital role the service continues to play across the region.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, attended the event to acknowledge past and present volunteers, saying the milestone was an opportunity to recognise the generations of people who have helped shape the unit over the last half-century.
"Fifty years of service is a remarkable achievement and reflects the dedication and resilience of the many volunteers who have served with the Temora SES Unit over the years," Ms Cooke said.
"It was wonderful to see some of the unit's original members and their families at the event, alongside current volunteers who continue this proud legacy of service."
The open day featured vehicle and vessel displays, live demonstrations, interactive activities, community engagement opportunities and a free barbecue, giving residents a firsthand insight into the critical work NSW SES members undertake to keep communities safe.
For 50 years, the Temora SES Unit has delivered lifesaving assistance during storms, floods and other emergencies, helping protect people, property and livelihoods when disaster strikes.
Ms Cooke said the anniversary also highlighted the ongoing need for volunteers across regional NSW.
"NSW SES volunteers are ordinary people doing extraordinary things, stepping forward to support their neighbours during some of life's most challenging moments," Ms Cooke said.
"The open day gave people a valuable insight into the many ways they can contribute through the SES, and I encourage anyone interested in serving their community to reach out to their local unit and learn how they can get involved."
