Upgraded amenities at West Wyalong Caravan Park are set to attract more tourists and travelling workers looking for modern, clean and affordable accommodation.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the $533,412 investment by the NSW Government has replaced a dilapidated front office and upgraded three amenities blocks with new ceilings, roofs and floor tiles.

“Visitors will receive a warm welcome in the new modern front office, setting the tone for their stay in West Wyalong in the beautiful Riverina,” Ms Cooke said.

“The NSW Government invested more than half a million dollars to help the caravan park, in the heart of town, bring more visitors to West Wyalong so they can spend money in shops and cafes, supporting local jobs.”

Manager of the West Wyalong Caravan Park, Jacqui Turner said this this was their first decent caravan season since Covid-19.

“These upgrades have had a positive impact, with some wonderful feedback received from our visitors,” she said.

The West Wyalong Caravan Park upgrade was managed by Bland Shire Council which also contributed $50,000 to the project. The refurbishment included nine new stainless steel toilets, vanities, mirrors and partitions.

Minister for Lands and Water Kevin Anderson said the caravan park is on Perseverance Street Recreation Reserve, a Crown reserve, with the $533,412 grant from the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund which enhances community facilities and recreational spaces across the state.

“Our investment provided jobs for local tradespeople when they were needed most – when the community was feeling the effects of the downturns caused by COVID and the ongoing impact of the last drought,” Mr Anderson said.

“Crown reserves play a critical role in protecting the environment and supporting communities with everything from ovals, parks and green open space to community halls.”
