WEST WYALONG CELEBRATES 125TH ANNUAL SHOW
The showground was the place to be on Wednesday September 9 for the 125th Annual West Wyalong Show.
It was an action-packed day celebrating all that makes the area such a special and unique community with the best of business, industry and locally produced specialties on display with Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke immersing herself in the festivities.
“Our local agricultural shows are so much more than community events, they are a celebration of the people and industries that underpin regional NSW,” Ms Cooke said.
“The West Wyalong Show is one of the most significant events on the calendar and connect generations through shared experiences and the passing on of others.
“These shows are an opportunity for education and innovation through competitions and exhibitions, allowing exhibitors to share new ideas and practices.”
With organisers finalising the gate numbers, they are pleased to report that it has been another almost record number of visitors and locals making their way through the show.
The Show featured a range of events and competitions throughout the day with Steph given the opportunity to judge the school display exhibits in the pavilion.
“It was also an honour to assist in judging and the sashing of the 2026 Young Woman, Laci Kremer, who will be a fantastic representative for West Wyalong in the Young Woman Competition,” Ms Cooke said.
“Laci’s involvement in stock horses and her passion for the local area are a testament to her win and showcase her involvement not only in the West Wyalong community, but the wider agricultural sector.”
“The volunteers who organise and run these events deserve enormous recognition,” Ms Cooke said.
“Their dedication ensures these events continue to thrive and remain an important part of regional life for future generations.”
One such volunteer who has built on the continued success of the West Wyalong Show is committee president Anthony Brown who said he is fortunate to have a fantastic and well numbered committee.
“The continuation of the shows is in the judges and stewards, looking long-term, we need to start to train up these younger volunteers to fulfill those roles,” he said.
“You’ve got to be innovative and the younger members who have come on board have brought in new ideas that will allow the Show to continue to grow.”
Mr Brown is very pleased with how the 2026 Show went and believes the community has fully embraced what the show represents.
“We are an ag community first and foremost, you’ve got to showcase the best of the area,” he said.
“The effort of businesses and exhibitors and what they have brought to the show have done that.”
The committee was excited to bring back the return of the fireworks display after almost a decade of them being absent, but it was also in the Pavilion that the committee noticed an increase in numbers.
“We had the best flower section we can remember, and the Young Sheep Judging has grown,” Mr Brown said. “It’s fantastic.”
Though the 2026 Show has just finished, the committee are already preparing and planning on how they can make changes or implement ideas for the 2027 Show and the community cannot wait.
