‘YOU SHOULD BE A COP IN YOUR HOME TOWN’ YOUNG!

Hilltops locals who’ve ever been curious about a career with the police can learn more about the opportunities within the force, as NSW Police take their ‘You Should Be a Cop in Your Home Town’ roadshow to the region.
Held at the Young PCYC on Lachlan Street this Saturday, the initiative gives locals the chance to talk one-on-one about the incentives available to police officers who choose to work in regional areas.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, said it’s positive to see NSW Police making it easier for prospective police officers to work closer to their families and the communities they call home.
“It really is a win-win when locals can pursue a rewarding career right here at home, get paid to train, and at the same time, close gaps in an essential service rural communities rely on,” Ms Cooke said.
“Saturday is a great opportunity to get a feel for whether this could be the right career path for you, with no expectations or strings attached.
“There’s nothing to lose by turning up and asking any questions you may have about a career in policing and opportunities for work in the bush.”
The ‘Be A Cop In Your Home Town’ pop-up will be open from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm, with Police particularly interested in connecting with potential candidates who aspire to work in the Hume Police District or the Southern Region.
Ms Cooke said it is important that locals take up roles in essential services to ensure their sustainability in the future.
“If our communities want to see more police on the beat, and this goes for any essential service, then we need to see locals willing to step up to fill some of these gaps,” Ms Cooke said.
“It’s always fantastic to welcome new people from across the state and out of state to our communities, but when so many in regional areas are crying out for more professionals, it’s vital that we also see locals step up to these essential roles.”
