Pedestrian and cyclist safety across Narrandera Shire is set for a major boost, with $1.29 million in new funding to deliver safer, more accessible local infrastructure.

The investment will support key upgrades in both Narrandera and Grong Grong, targeting areas where residents regularly walk and cycle but face safety risks.

In Narrandera, $997,200 will fund the construction of a shared footpath and a new pedestrian bridge along Larmer Street, between Townsend and Adams Streets. The project will provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists crossing over the irrigation canal.

In Grong Grong, $295,200 will be used to build new footpaths along Berrembed Street and Narrandera Street, giving pedestrians safer access to the village centre.

These projects are jointly funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments under the Road Safety Program, which focuses on improving high-risk locations in regional communities.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the upgrades would make a meaningful difference to everyday life for residents.

“Whether it’s walking to the shops, getting some exercise, or moving around town, people deserve to do so safely,” Ms Cooke said.

“These improvements are especially important in communities like Narrandera and Grong Grong, where many residents rely on safe, accessible walking routes to stay active and connected.”

Ms Cooke said the projects reflect strong collaboration across all levels of government to deliver practical improvements where they are needed most.

She also reaffirmed her commitment to securing further infrastructure upgrades in the region, including the widening of the Irrigation Way Bridge.

“This is a key route for both local traffic and industry, and upgrading the bridge is critical to improving safety and supporting future growth,” Ms Cooke said.
