CELEBRATING OUR SES VOLUNTEERS THIS ‘WOW’ DAY

Tuesday, 21 May 2024

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke is encouraging residents across the electorate to wear something orange this Wednesday (May 22), to support and celebrate our local NSW State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.

Ms Cooke said Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) is a chance to highlight the invaluable contribution of the SES volunteers across our community.

“Our State Emergency Service volunteers are the unsung heroes of our community; they consistently demonstrate courage, resilience, and compassion in the face of adversity, responding to emergencies at a moment's notice, often working in hazardous conditions to keep us safe,” Ms Cooke said.

Ms Cooke noted the pivotal role played by the SES in emergency response, from flood and storm assistance, to road crash rescues and other critical incidents.

“Our SES volunteers exemplify the spirit of community service; their commitment to helping others, regardless of the circumstances, is something we should never take for granted,” Ms Cooke said.

“This WOW day I encourage everyone across the Cootamundra electorate to wear a touch of orange to show your appreciation to our local SES volunteers.

“On behalf of the entire community, I would like to express my gratitude to our SES volunteers, who put service above self all year-round,” she said.

WOW Day forms part of National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration that honours and celebrates contributions of volunteers across the country.

“I encourage residents to consider volunteering with the SES; it’s a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the community, while also being part of a team dedicated to helping others,” she said.

National Volunteer Week runs from 20-26 May 2024. This year’s theme is ‘something for everyone.’
