The Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, has officially reopened the newly refurbished Cootamundra War Memorial Library, following an investment of $102,000 through Round 3 of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Ms Cooke joined Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council Deputy Mayor Ros Wight, newly elected councillors, library patrons, and staff at a special ceremony to celebrate the renovations, which include new carpets, updated lighting, fresh paintwork, new computer desks, a new circulation desk, and computers for public use.
“This library is a vital community hub, and seeing these upgrades come to fruition is wonderful,
“Whether it’s children discovering the joy of reading, students looking for a quiet place to study, or adults accessing essential resources, this library offers something for everyone. I’m delighted that this investment will continue to support learning, connection, and creativity in Cootamundra,” Ms Cooke said.
“The upgrades will enhance the library’s ability to serve its 3,180 members and meet the needs of over 47,000 annual visitors,” Ms Cooke said.
“This is a space where people can come together, learn, and grow. I encourage everyone to visit and see these fantastic upgrades for themselves."
Cootamundra War Memorial Library Manager Penny Howse expressed her gratitude to contractors, library staff, and council teams for their hard work during the renovation, noting that the library remained operational throughout the process.
“Our library is part of the Riverina Regional Library network, which includes 19 branches, and it remains one of the most active in the region,” Ms Howse said. “Last year alone, we issued over 30,000 loans, which shows just how much this space means to the community. These upgrades allow us to provide even better services and opportunities for our patrons.”
