Cowra residents have been given their first look inside the town’s new $110.2 million hospital, which will serve the community for decades to come.
Earlier this month, it was announced that construction of the new health facility had been completed, and that the community would be invited to join guided tours ahead of the official opening.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, joined the local residents as the doors to the brand-new hospital opened for the first time.
“In my inaugural speech to Parliament, I made it clear that a new hospital for Cowra was one of my highest priorities,” Ms Cooke said.
“To join residents on the tour, hear their immediate feedback, and see the final result of eight years of advocacy is incredibly rewarding.”
Visitors were shown new clinical areas including the Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient spaces, the maternity unit with a dedicated nursery, the dental clinic, renal dialysis, oncology, and the hospital’s first CT scanner.
The event also gave residents an opportunity to meet staff, ask questions, and learn more about the services that will soon be delivered at the facility.
“I want to thank the current and former NSW Health Ministers, Cowra Council, Mayor Paul Smith, former Mayor Bill West, and our incredible local nurses, doctors, and supporters who fought for this project from the beginning,” Ms Cooke said.
“This hospital will support residents today and generations to come, and it will help us retain our extraordinary health staff and attract more to the region.”
With Cowra Hospital complete and work on a new Temora Hospital underway, Ms Cooke says she is determined to ensure other communities across the electorate have the infrastructure they need, including Cootamundra, Grenfell, and Coolamon.
