Engines are roaring louder than ever at the Grenfell Kart Club following the completion of the facility’s brand-new racing track.

Four years of construction by local contractors and suppliers has delivered a resurfaced track with a 160-metre extension and a new start/finish straight.

The project was supported by an $842,339 grant from Round One of the former Coalition Government’s Regional Sport Facility Fund, announced by Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke in 2021.

“Grenfell now has one of, if not the, best racing tracks in New South Wales,” Ms Cooke said.”

“It really is the ‘Home of Country Racing’, and I can’t wait to see the sport’s future superstars hone their skills at the track.”

Grenfell Kart Club has been racing since the 1960s and remains the longest continually licenced kart track in the country.

The official grand opening of the new track was held on Saturday and was followed by a Six Track Challenge.

Ms Cooke said the upgrades will help the Central West stand out when organisers are selecting venues for future competitions.

“Sport is very important to regional economies, but you need the right facilities to attract large competitions,” Ms Cooke said.

“These upgrades put Grenfell in the best position to attract competitors from across New South Wales and even interstate.

"But kart racing doesn’t just bring racers to town, but also their pit crews, families and supporters and that’s a great thing for local businesses, including our hospitality venues, caravan parks and hotels.”
