Cowra’s new $110.2 million hospital has commenced operations, marking another major milestone for the project and an exciting new chapter for the region’s healthcare.
Following months of preparation, a coordinated transfer of departments from the existing hospital is now underway, with emergency, inpatient, and outpatient care operating within the new facility as of today.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said it was wonderful to see patients accessing high-quality care within the new hospital, which has long been advocated for.
“This has been a truly transformative project for Cowra,” Ms Cooke said.
“More than 600 residents have been through the facility to catch an early glimpse, and now everyone can begin accessing the hospital’s state-of-the-art services.”
The staged opening will see several of the hospital’s new or expanded services, including its first CT scanner, upgraded ultrasound facilities, and the expanded dental clinic, welcome patients in January.
Careful planning behind this transition will also ensure services continue with minimal disruption, with temporary arrangements in place to help staff assist patients and visitors.
With the new building now operational, work will turn to the final stage of the project, which includes the demolition of the former hospital and construction of a new car park and landscaped surrounds.
This final phase will improve access to the facility, including new accessible parking spaces adjacent to the main entrance.
“Over the coming months, we’ll see Cowra Hospital’s campus transform into a modern, safe, and welcoming space for residents accessing care,” Ms Cooke said.
“As we enter the last stage of construction, the focus is firmly on delivering the best possible experience for patients, carers, and staff.”
