The dinner brought together this year’s ride participants and community members to celebrate their hard work in raising funds for cancer research and prevention, as well as their support for communities across regional New South Wales.

Ms Cooke said the event demonstrated the generosity that regional towns are known for.

“It was wonderful to attend the Can4Cancer NSW Regional Ride Dinner in Young and meet some of the participants and supporters who are helping make a noticeable difference in the fight against cancer,” Ms Cooke said.

“Every rider, volunteer, sponsor and donor involved should feel incredibly proud of the impact they are making.”

Can4Cancer is an initiative led by Commonwealth Bank employees in partnership with Tour de Cure. It started as a single cycling event in 2014 and has since grown to involve thousands of Commonwealth Bank employees nationwide in cycling, running, walking, swimming, and fundraising activities.

So far, Can4Cancer has raised nearly $24 million for cancer research and prevention, helping to achieve 63 cancer research breakthroughs.

“This is an incredible achievement and shows the power of people coming together behind a common cause,” Ms Cooke said.

“Cancer touches the lives of so many families across our communities, and the funding generated through fundraising initiatives like Can4Cancer is helping to drive vital research and improve results for patients.”

This year, participants travelled through central and southern NSW from Dubbo to Crookwell between 31 October and 3 November. Along the way, they connected with nearby communities and promoted awareness about the importance of cancer research and prevention.

Ms Cooke said she was glad to welcome participants to Young and thanked the organisers for involving the community in their journey.

“Our communities have a proud tradition of supporting worthwhile causes, and it was fantastic to see that spirit on display at the dinner,” she said.

“I wish all riders a safe and successful journey and thank everyone involved for their pledge to improve the lives of Australians affected by cancer.”
