Cowra has cemented its reputation as a regional hub for aviation training with the opening of the Cowra and District Aero Club’s new hangar and clubroom complex, Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said.
On hand to officially open the new facilities, Ms Cooke praised the work of all those involved in making the project a reality.
“Investing in our regional communities is now more important than ever, and I’m very proud to say I was part of a Coalition Government that invested $325,485 in the construction of the new hangar and clubroom here in Cowra,” Ms Cooke said.
“Another $125,000 was invested by club members and friends of the club, who donated money, materials, equipment, and their time.
“These new facilities are a great asset to the Cowra and District Aero Club; the members – who provide high-quality flight training – are really making their mark in the industry as being leaders in their field,” she said.
Ms Cooke said the new hangar is also designed to accommodate first responders.
“The new hangar includes an ambulance bay that allows for patients awaiting air-transfer, to be attended-to in an undercover area protected from the weather, before they are transferred to their medical aircraft,” Ms Cooke said.
Cowra and District Aero Club President and Senior Instructor David Shaw said the opening was a double celebration.
“The grand opening of the new facilities coincided with the 75th anniversary of the club, so the day marked a truly remarkable milestone for us all,” Mr Shaw said.
“These new upgrades will allow us to increase our current capabilities, expand our teaching opportunities, and basically give us the chance to become a better facility to introduce young people in particular, to all aspects of aviation.
“In addition to our recreational flight training, the new hangar and clubroom will enable us to roll out an introduction to aviation course for school students who may be interested in learning to fly, or are interested in becoming involved in the maintenance or engineering aspects of aviation,” he said.
