WORK CONTINUES ON TEMPORARY BRIDGE AT WALLENDBEEN

Work is continuing on the construction of a temporary bridge on Burley Griffin Way at Wallendbeen to restore this critical connection for road users as quickly as possible.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said every effort was being made to open the temporary bridge to traffic as soon as possible.
“We understand the significant impact the 40-minute detour is having on the community, motorists and freight operators,” Ms Cooke said.
“We want to assure the community that about 20 people are on site every single day working extremely hard to complete this work.
“Crews have faced prolonged wet weather and found soft ground conditions on site to be less than ideal, requiring an additional steel support structure to be installed to ensure the crossing is safe.
“As a consequence, the new temporary bridge is not expected to open to traffic until late October, weather permitting.”
The assembly of the temporary bridge has been completed and next steps will include building off-road pads to support a 62-tonne piling rig and a 750-tonne crane, and road piling work to install in-ground supports for the temporary bridge.
Once this is completed, the crane will be positioned on the slab and lift the bridge onto the supports, allowing the construction of the road approaches to the bridge.
Work is being carried out weekdays from 6.30am to 5.30pm, weather permitting.
Additional hours with 24-hour work will start from 6am Saturday 4 September to 6pm Monday 6 September.
During work, Burley Griffin Way will remain closed at the railway line. Motorists should continue to use the detour via the Olympic Highway and Goldfields Way during this time.
Transport for NSW will make every effort to minimise impacts on the community and keep traffic moving during this work.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control. Please allow up to five minutes extra travel times while work is under way.
