Tuesday, 3 November 2026
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has congratulated organisers, volunteers and participants on another successful Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival, as the event marked its 61st year.

Ms Cooke said the carnival is still one of the region’s most valued sporting traditions, bringing together hundreds of young athletes, families, and supporters from across the district.
“The Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival is more than just a sporting event,” Ms Cooke said.
“For 61 years, it has been a great celebration of teamwork and community spirit.
“This event wouldn’t happen without the dedication of the carnival committee, the many volunteers who give their time so generously, and the parents and supporters who spend countless hours helping young people take part in sport.”
Ms Cooke praised the organising committee for putting on another great carnival and thanked the volunteers who work behind the scenes all year.
“From organising fixtures and preparing the grounds and courts to running the canteens and making sure everything goes smoothly, volunteers are the backbone of this carnival and truly deserve our thanks,” Ms Cooke said.

Ms Cooke also recognised how important local schools are in keeping this long-standing tradition going.
“I especially want to thank the school communities of St Joseph’s Primary School Boorowa and Boorowa Central School. Their students, staff, parents, and families have played a big part in the carnival’s success over many years,” she said.
“The strong support from both school communities shows how much they value encouraging young people to be active, make friends, and learn teamwork through sport.”
Ms Cooke said the carnival is still a highlight of the sporting calendar and shows the very best of Boorowa.
“The Boorowa community should be very proud of what has been achieved over the past six decades,” she said.
“Congratulations to everyone involved in this year’s carnival and thank you for helping keep this wonderful tradition going for future generations.”
