CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF ST JOSEPH’S IN GRENFELL

Wednesday, 30 September 2026
Past and present students, staff, parents and parishioners came together on Saturday to celebrate a milestone a century and a half in the making as St Joseph’s Primary School Grenfell marked 150 years of Catholic education and community service.

The celebrations were an opportunity to look back on the school's history, honour generations of students who have passed through its gates, and recognise the lasting contribution the school has made to the community over the past 150 years.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the centenary was a notable accomplishment for the school’s permanent impact for generations of local families.
“Celebrating 150 years of St Joseph’s Primary School is an amazing achievement and one that the entire Grenfell community can be proud of,” Ms Cooke said.
“For a century and a half, St Joseph’s has provided children with a firm foundation in education, faith and society values, helping students to reach their full potential.
“The stories shared throughout the celebrations highlight the important role the school has played in moulding lives and bolstering community connections across the Weddin Shire.”
The day featured commemorative activities, historical displays, school tours and a special celebration bringing together former and current members of the school community.

Past students travelled from across the state and beyond to meet up with classmates, staff and friends while sharing memories spanning decades.
While celebrating the school’s past, the day also offered an opportunity to look to the future, with the school reaffirming its pledge to supply high-quality education while maintaining the values and traditions which have underpinned its success over the past century.
“Schools like St Joseph’s are at the heart of our regional towns,” Ms Cooke said.
“The relationships and opportunities created within these classrooms have a lasting effect that extends widely beyond the school gates.
“Congratulations to St Joseph’s Primary School. This milestone is a wonderful celebration of the school’s legacy and a bright foundation for the next century to come.”
