National Meals on Wheels Day is shining a light on the vital role the service plays across the Cootamundra electorate in supporting older residents and those who may need a little extra help to remain living independently at home.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has commended the volunteers and staff whose dedication ensures Meals on Wheels continues to thrive right across the electorate.
“Meals on Wheels does so much more than provide nutritious meals,” Ms Cooke said.
“It’s an organisation rooted in companionship, reassurance and helping people remain independent in their own homes."
"Just as important is the friendly chat and check-in that comes with every delivery.”
For more than 70 years, Meals on Wheels has been a trusted, reliable presence in communities right across the country, and in the Cootamundra electorate it is powered by the generosity of locals who give their time to care for others.
National Meals on Wheels Day 2025 is being celebrated under the theme “Aged Care You Can Count On”, acknowledging the organisation’s role in supporting older Australians and those who may find it difficult to shop or prepare meals for themselves.
Ms Cooke said the day is also a reminder of the importance of volunteering.
“Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back and make a real difference close to home, and Meals on Wheels is one of those services who are always looking for more helping hands,” Ms Cooke said.
“I want to thank every volunteer across our electorate who steps up to ensure this service continues.
“Your contribution means the world to the people you support, and to our wider community.”
