GRANTS PROGRAM CLOSES SOON TO GET YOUTH TO CONNECT IN REAL LIFE

Tuesday, 27 October 2026
Community organisations, councils and not-for-profit groups across the Cootamundra electorate are being encouraged to apply for the Connect in Real Life (IRL) Phase 2 – 2026/27 grants program.

The program aims to help young people build stronger social connections and develop life skills while actively participating in their communities.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the program offers local organisations an important opportunity to invest in the wellbeing and future of young people across the electorate.
“We know that strong communities are built on strong connections, and this funding will help local organisations create opportunities for young people to engage and participate,” Ms Cooke said.
“Mentoring programs, leadership development or community events or activities can all help reduce social isolation.
“These grants can make a real difference in the lives of young people throughout our region.”
Grants of between $50,000 and $150,000 are available to support practical initiatives for young people aged 8 to 24 years, particularly those from regional and rural communities, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander young people, young people with a disability, culturally and linguistically diverse young people and others facing disadvantage.
The Program supports projects that strengthen social connection and participation, wellbeing and skill development, and pathways to adulthood through meaningful, face-to-face engagement.
Examples of eligible projects include:
Mentoring and peer support programs
Leadership and civic participation initiatives
Youth hubs and safe community spaces
Life skills and independent living programs
Creative, cultural and recreational clubs
Community events and volunteering opportunities
Programs that support mental wellbeing and healthy relationships
Activities that help young people develop confidence, resilience and employment skills
Ms Cooke said local organisations are often best placed to identify and respond to young people's needs in their communities.
“The Cootamundra electorate is home to many dedicated community groups that already do incredible work supporting local young people,” Ms Cooke said.
“I encourage eligible organisations to explore this funding opportunity and consider how it could help expand or deliver new initiatives.”
Applications for Connect In Real Life (IRL) Phase 2 2026/27 close at 4pm on 6 November 2026.
