Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke today announced that one of the region’s newest events, the Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre’s Tractor Pull and Swap Meet, will receive up to $20,000 in Round One of the NSW Government’s 2018 Incubator Event Fund.

The Fund, managed by the State’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, assists regional events in their infancy to grow attendance and boost the local visitor economy.

Ms Cooke said the event, at Gundagai Showground on Saturday February 24, will help drive additional visitors to Gundagai while showcasing some of the region’s best machinery.

“Events play a fundamental role in attracting both new and returning visitors to our regional towns, bringing with them additional business to restaurants and cafes, local tourism operators, attractions and accommodation providers,” Ms Cooke said.

“There is so much at this event to bring in visitors: vintage machinery, a truck show and shine, a four-wheel drive ute pull and there’s even a ladies tractor pull,” she said.

“But surely the most hotly contested event will be the sit-on mower races,” she added.

“I congratulate the event organisers on this wonderful achievement and look forward to seeing our region buzzing with visitors when the Tractor Pull and Swap Meet rolls around next year,” she said

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the Tractor Pull and Swap Meet was one of eight events that had been selected to receive NSW Government funding to assist with elements such as staging costs, venue hire, marketing and publicity activities.

“The Incubator Event Fund supports new events in their first or second years held in regional NSW and is part of our enhanced Regional Flagship Events Program which offers more money than ever before,” Mr Marshall said.

“As a country-based Minister I am determined to ensure that we continue to empower and support our regional NSW tourism industry and that means investing in activities which turbocharge local economies and create jobs.”

The Fund is part of the expanded Regional Flagship Events Program which also includes the Flagship Event Fund and the Event Development Fund. For more information on the Program, go to http://www.destinationnsw.com.au/rfep.

The Tractor Pull and Swap Meet will be held at Gundagai Showground on Saturday February 24.
