Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke joined Hilltops councillors at Koorawatha yesterday to cut the ribbon at the opening of a new toilet block.

Ms Cooke highlighted the importance of such facilities, as she and Councillor Wendy Tuckerman, Councillor Margaret Roles and Councillor John Horton declared the $50,000 facilities open.

“When you’re on the road and you need a comfort stop, facilities like this can be worth their weight in gold,” she said.

“There is nothing more distracting than either needing a comfort stop as the driver, or having a passenger who needs to stop,” she added.

“And if the passenger in need is a child, then levels of anxiety in the car can go through the roof,” Ms Cooke said.

“Obviously, if the driver is being distracted by this additional pressure then their ability to focus on the road will be severely compromised, and that could have severe consequences.”

The grant for the amenities block came from the $15 million Stronger Communities Fund allocated to Hilltops Council.
