Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke met with co-ordinators of the inaugural Starry Nights Festival after Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council received $121,600 under the ‘Open Streets Program’ to help stage festivities.
“The Starry Nights Festival will encompass Cootamundra’s Wattle Time Fair and the Festival of Gundagai, both scheduled for September. The Festival program will then extend into December, with two Christmas events planned, with a ‘shop local’ focus,” Ms Cooke said.
“I met with CGRC Mayor Cr Gil Kelly, along with council’s Tourism and Economic Development officer Leah Sutherland and Casey Polsen of Gundagai’s Tourist Information Centre to hear more about how the Festival plans are coming together.
“They’d like to hear from community groups that would like to be involved in staging the December Christmas events. The Council is asking groups interested in organising the Christmas events in Cootamundra and Gundagai to come forward,” she said.
Cootamundra’s Wattle Time Festival will be held on 7 September 2024, while The Festival of Gundagai will be held on 21 September 2024. These events will include street parades, market stalls, live entertainment, children’s amusements, and producers’ markets.
Christmas on Sheridan will be held on 6 December 2024, while Cootamundra’s Sparkling Street Community Christmas Party will take place on 12 December 2024. ‘Expressions of Interest’ for groups interested in organising the Christmas events close on 30 August 2024. “The Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of our local community, with a fantastic calendar of events for all ages; I thank all those involved in bringing it to life and encourage everyone to come along and enjoy what it means to be a part of our wonderful regional communities,” Ms Cooke said.
