Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke today announced seven women from the Cootamundra electorate have been acknowledged on the 2019 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.

Of the 78 female volunteers recognised for their important contributions to communities across New South Wales, six women from Narrandera have been acknowledged.

Ms Cooke said the Hidden Treasures Honour Roll is a fantastic initiative that highlights the women who make significant contributions to society through their volunteer work.

“These women provide an enormous amount of support to our community and are true treasures,” Ms Cooke said.

“They have been nominated by others who have seen first-hand how their important work has benefitted the individuals or the local groups they support.

“Their contributions are often unsung but so incredibly valuable, so I’m excited they have received this recognition and sincerely thank all of our tireless volunteers who form part of the community’s backbone.”

The local women listed on the Honour Roll include:

  • Helen Knagge, Narrandera

  • Heather Christie, Narrandera

  • Janice McGilvray, Narrandera

  • Rachael Hyde, Narrandera

  • Mary Sutcliffe, Narrandera

  • Lorraine Osmond, Narrandera

  • Sue Gordon, Young

Volunteer Sue Gordon said it’s incredibly nice to be recognised.

“To be acknowledged on the Hidden Treasures Honour Roll is very humbling,” Mrs Gordon said.

“People often volunteer not to receive recognition, but because there’s a need for it to be done, and along the way you get to have fun doing it and meet a lot of people.”
