WEDDIN NATIVE NURSERY SIGNS UNVEILED

Environmental educational signs have been proudly unveiled at the Weddin Community Native Nursery at Grenfell, made possible by a grant for $8,762 under the NSW Government’s 2020 Community Building Partnership program.

Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke said the signs would benefit volunteers and visitors to the community nursery by providing more information about native flora. 

“This wonderful nursery propagates a wide variety of native plants that grow in the region, with volunteers working to collect and harvest seeds from grasses, flowers and shrubs, through to trees,” Ms Cooke said.

“Nursery volunteers also have a special role in educating visitors and the public about biodiversity and the role of native plants in our gardens, farms and public lands.” 

“It is great the new signage will support the nursery in all of this fantastic work,” Ms Cooke added. 

Mrs Jan Diprose, Chairperson of Weddin Community Native Nursery said the funding meant the team could provide a very special experience to visitors and guests. 

“Our landcare co-ordinator, Melanie Cooper, along with our team of volunteers took the photos and gathered the information that went on these signs. From what soil type the natives prefer to their uses and properties, extensive research and care has gone into the information provided.”

“When you walk through the nursery now you can stop and learn so much about the native flora that grows in this region.”
