Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke has joined Evolution Mining to mark 20 years of Cowal Gold Operations in West Wyalong.
The open pit gold mine supports approximately 1,100 workers and has invested millions of dollars into the local community through direct contributions.
Earlier this year, the site was granted final regulatory approval to continue operating until 2042, which has ensured long-term stability for the local economy, community initiatives, and the workforce.
“For twenty years, Cowal Gold Operations has been a major employer and partner of the Bland Shire, ensuring that our communities have benefitted from their presence in the region,” Ms Cooke said.
“With a regulatory guarantee until 2042, we’re confident this prosperous relationship will continue to deliver meaningful employment opportunities for locals, as well as funding opportunities for students, not-for-profits, and community events.”
“Since taking over the mine in 2015, Evolution Mining has demonstrated unwavering support for the community, and I thank them for the vital role they play in uplifting rural New South Wales.”
During Tuesday’s 20-year ceremony, CEO and General Manager, Joe Mammen paid tribute to the staff, thanking them for their dedication over the past two decades.
“A 20-year milestone is more than just a marker of time, it's a testament to the dedication, resilience and hard work for every person that's been involved in the operations,” Mr Mammen said.
“Without our people, our operation would not be the important asset it is today, and it’s their commitment to their individual roles which has given us the ability to grow the mine well into the future.”
