Local fishing enthusiasts as well as first time anglers are encouraged to get involved in Gone Fishing Day this Saturday, in a celebration of recreational fishing and the many benefits it brings to communities across the Cootamundra electorate.

Gone Fishing Day is an annual initiative that encourages people of all ages and experience levels to get outdoors, connect with family and friends, and enjoy local fishing opportunities.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said Gone Fishing Day celebrates recreational fishing while promoting health, active lifestyles, and appreciation of the local environment.
“Gone Fishing Day is about more than catching fish. It’s about getting outside, unplugging from our busy lives and spending time with family and friends in some of the most beautiful locations our region has to offer,” Ms Cooke said.
“No matter if you’re an experienced angler or picking up a fishing rod for the first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn new abilities and connect with others while enjoying all our waterways have to offer.”
Across NSW, Gone Fishing Day events feature fishing sessions, casting demonstrations, educational activities, expert advice and family experiences aimed at urging more people to discover the enjoyment of recreational fishing.
Recreational fishing plays an important role in local communities by supporting local tourism, businesses and outdoor recreation opportunities while bringing people together through a shared pastime.
Ms Cooke said local waterways offer the ideal setting for people to take part in the celebration.
“We are fortunate to live in an area with fantastic rivers, streams and dams that offer great fishing experiences for people of all ages,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to grab a rod, gather the family and take part in Gone Fishing Day.
“It’s a fun and affordable activity that creates enduring memories and helps promote a lasting appreciation for the outdoors.”
Recreational fishing initiatives across NSW support Gone Fishing Day and aims to introduce more people to the social and community benefits of fishing.
